For over four years now The Camerons Brewery Company have been using two Air Operated Diaphragm pumps from Flotronic Pumps Limited to transfer yeast at different stages of their brewing process.
Replacing the older style 'figure of eight' double diaphragm pumps, they have been pleased with the simplicity of maintenance and the ease of dealing directly with a pump manufacturer, rather than through a third party.
Camerons is part of the Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries Group, the UK leading independent brewer, with ale brands including Banks' Bitter, Camerons Strongarm, Marstons Pedigree and Mansfield Bitter.
The Flotronic 'Fast Maintenance' One Nut pumps are used to deliver the pitching yeast to the fermenting process and also to feed the waste yeast into the filter presses.
The 1½" 710 Series pumps are manufactured from 316 stainless steel with PTFE elastomers and have been in operation since early 1996. They have flooded suctions and can deliver up to 90 psi when feeding the filter press.
Normally pumping at ambient temperature, they can see up to 80 C for the CIP process. They are ideally suited for filter press feed, for as the filter becomes full the pumps will automatically dead head without damage and without the need for sophisticated electronic controls etc.
