Down On The Farm with Flotronic Pumps

When leading Animal Feed Supplement Company Denis Brinicombe needed to pump neat cane molasses with viscosity of 10,000 centipoise, Flotronic came to the rescue! This is a new installation where they would normally use gear pumps but due to the very viscous nature of this product, shipped in from Cuba, they decided on Double Diaphragm pumps from Flotronic. Founded in 1973, Denis Brinicombe has grown steadily and in 1996 built a new state-of-the-art production facility on their site in Crediton, Devon. Specialising in Animal Health Nutrition, their products include mineral licks, cereal protein balancers, granular minerals, liquid feeds and trace element tablets. This family run company now supplies products to over 10,000 customers who include farmers, animal feed producers and vets.

The Flotronic 500 Series Polypropylene 2" Hi Flo pump transfers the molasses from 1,000 litre IBC’s onto a weighing platform and then to a rotary mixer, where it is added to dry minerals to form a mineral lick for cattle and sheep. The product is pumped up to 3m high and along 10m distance through 4" pipe with a flowrate of 100 l/min being specified – in fact the pump is achieving in excess of this! When asked about his experience in dealing with FPL, Dave Shorthouse – Production Manager comments "We are very impressed by the simplicity of design, it's so quick and easy to strip for maintenance. We were delighted with its performance, giving us more than we expected! We are now considering using these pumps for all future applications".
